This song it based on the legend of the Blue Man of Spring Creek. A figure from the Ozarks, known for its sightings in the remote, wooded hills around Douglas County. This creature, often described as a wild, man like figure, has been reported to roam the area since the 1860s.
This song references the sad chapter of history called the "Trail of Tears". In the late 1830s, following the Indian Removal Act of 1830, five Native American tribes were forcibly removed from their homelands in the Southeastern United States to what is now Oklahoma. Many of these groups traveled through Missouri along the so-called “Northern Route,” enduring harsh winter conditions and significant suffering along the way, with thousands perishing during the journey.
My desired goal for this song is to provide a simple metaphor of compromise and meeting in the middle. Hopefully we can all take a breath and love thy neighbor. I wanted to try and do my part to try and help cool the current political divide in the United States, without being preachy or choosing sides.
Before I retired, I used to travel for work. For years, I went through Denver Airport. There was spot on the second level where I could sit and grab a quick sandwich and watch people arrive. I loved seeing the pure joy of people reuniting with their loved ones. With this song, I tried to capture what I was feeling.

This song is written from a grandchild’s perspective in the future. I wanted to try and describe what a grandchild might think of a grandparent’s experiences as they hear the stories about how life used to be.
